Hi all,
I have just signed up for the Granfondo di Lombardia on October 19th.
The Giro di Lombardia is one of cycling's monuments and with it's combination of stunning lake and mountain views, complemented by early autumn colours, it's also one of its most beautiful races.
It is a similar concept as the Felice Gimondi and is set a day after the Giro di Lombardia, the last pro event of the season - partly following the same route the pros take the day before.
A good description of the ride can be found here:
http://www.cyclingnews.com/features.php?id=features/2007/lombardia_medio...
Start is in Como at the Swiss-Italian Border.
Easy jet can take you from Gatwick to Milan Malpensa, from where you can take a train to Como Nord. (One change)
Race entry is 43 Euros,
Hotels seem to be rasonably priced at 50-100 Euros a night, depending on category and luxury.
their website is http://www.gazzetta.it/challenge/percorso_lombardia.shtml
in order to sign up you need to click onto:
http://www.sdam.it/pubblico/login.do
and follow the (English) instructions - you will need to create an account first and then add yourself as a rider.
As category it is best to pick "cicloturista" if you don't have a racing licence. Otherwise they will require you to get a day licence for which you need to bring a GP confirmation about your health status.
I'm planning to book my hotel room (one night from Saturday to Sunday) over the next days.
If anybody is interested in joining, please let me know.

Cheers
